About Friends of Balibo

My photo
Friends of Balibo
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
The Friends of Balibo was established to fill a gap in the existing Friendship network between communities in Australia and Timor-Leste. Balibo appears to have been left out of the Friendship network because it had the support of the Victorian government for the Balibo Flag House. While the Flag House project has been successful, there has also been a view that community to community activities in Balibo could be expanded, in particular to outlying hamlets. And as the organisational relationships of the Balibo House Trust change, there is increasing scope for a supporting Friendship group to assist. The method of the Friends of Balibo group, like other friendship groups, is to be led by the people of Balibo, and to share information, ideas and knowledge in both directions. In large part, the intention is to build genuine community links, as well as individual friendships. The group itself is open to those who are interested in participating. Pleae feel free to contact the Friends of Balibo (initially c/o dlk@deakin.edu.au), or to post your thoughts.
